Side by Side Error / Vista

Someone walked into the shop i work in,on friday,with him he had brought a game,called citiesxl on the pc,well it was the newest cities game anyway.
He went on to explain that when he trys to register the game with the activation code,he gets this side by side error.
I have never seen this error myself but could remember a little of something I once read on a forum,So I told him to go home and try to get it to work again,as we can only take pc games back as a last resort and even then the manager hates having to do It.
All I could remember reading on that site was it was something to do with visual basic c++,so i told him to go home and to update his machine,especially the basic++ part,I also said that if the visual basic c++ was 86 and 64 bit version to uninstall and just install the 32 bit version.He didnt seem that confident in what i was telling him,so he will probably come back tomorrow,of course this time I will swap the game over for him.But that still leaves me not knowing what this error Is about,so I ask here,today,In this forum of forum's.Does anyone know what this error Is and what causes It.
