    Kaspersky is excellent, but.................

Why has my XP Home machine with 2.53 gb ram gone from 1 minute start up from cold, to 11 minutes? Then froze and had to re boot, and wait again? Is it because it is stopping everything loading till its ready? Or just a start up hogger. (but it is good)
Oh, and do i need Malware protection with it, as it seems to be doing that too according to the info. KIS 2010 9.0.0.736?

My suggestion: install Ccleaner. Fire that up, select "Start up", and disable all third-party software that is not required to have it running with start-up. Leave your security software alone though.

i use KIS 2010(well not exactly, i use KIS CBE :P) and i dont have such problems[KIS 2010 really is excellent].
kees has an excellent suggestion, just have a look at what programs run at startup.you can also use the registry cleaner in there.
now, to answer the second question, i just have to steal one line.-NO ANTIVIRUS IS PERFECT. same applies to antimalwares too.so, its not necessary but you might(might-weak possibility,may-strong possibility) need another on-demand antimalware scanner.the choice is yours. if you do want an antimalware, then i suggest MBAM(malwarebytes antimalware), its paid version gives realtime protection which does not hinder KIS 2010,but for an on-demand scanner, its free version is sufficient.
PS> sorry for the slightly long answer

From 1 to 11 min - that shows symptoms of incompatibility somewhere...it isn't right. Kees suggestion is right but it'd be better to figure out what's the exact problem...

What else do you have on your PC? Especially security software...Kaspersky is known to be incompatible with many afaik.

There's another option: How old is your HDD? Does it make a strange noise when it works? Maybe your HDD is dying slowly.

    Screw Google! Ask me!

    Kaspersky is a memory eater.
Would you please tell us what CPU do you use?.

I bet you experience log off problems as well

In order to disable unnecessary start up entries you can safely use startup lite, just download it on you desktop, double click StartUpLite.exe. Select all options you would like executed and select continue.

In order to check for possible incompatibility issues, please download and use User Profile Hive Cleanup from Microsoft.

You may also download and install Windows Installer Clean up, in order to properly uninstall incompatible software

That would be the sound of death to your hard drive. Chances are good it's on it's way out then. Most hard drives, if making a lot of noise... yeah. That would be the case. There are some really junky ones too... so you never know.

Di a massive clean up on registry, and start up items, and got it down to 4 minutes now, which isnt too bad. Got mbam as suggested, and it picked up a lot of tracking cookies and 2 trojans which i later found on Kasperskys quarantine too! seems my Eset Smart Security wasnt doing its job all this time. I only ever have 1 security software at any time, but have got the paid mbam, but not activated the real time protection, as i think kaspersky will be sufficient. Thanks to all you guys, and now i am a Kaspersky convert.

Kaspersky is best installed on a clean machine {a machine which didn't have any security product installed in the past. (a reformated system) }.

So if you can, format your computer and throw in kaspersky. You will be surprise at how good Kaspersky works.
