Help recovering a deleted TrueCrypt Vault

I was wondering if there was a way to recover a TrueCrypt Vault that I deleted. None of the conventional recovery softwares seem to recognize it. I stopped using the HDD the vault was contained on so I am reasonably sure it is still on there someplace and hasn't been overwritten. Any help would be very appreciated!

    Thanks, John

What a mess John!! Since none of the recovery tools you tried worked I really hope that Roadkil Undelete will work. Go ahead and give it a shot.

Now why didn't I think of that? Thanks Albo!

Oh, by the way, I have a backup up most of the files in the crypt so all will not be lost. I just hadn't gotten around to saving a copy of the new additions.

    Roadkill didn't work either.

Looks like you really mucked things up this time old friend. I'll talk to a buddy of mine at work, maybe he can suggest something.

Hey Bear, yes I certainly did. It was an accident, but as they say "stuff" happens! Maybe your buddy can help. Thanks for the offer.

I won a copy of Easeus Data Recovery Wizard today and when I ran it, it did find my lost TrueCrypt Vault and recovered it. Unfortunately, when I unlocked the vault, the data had become corrupted.

Too bad it didn't work John. If you want, I can bring the HDD back with me sometime and have Tom give it a try. He might be able to help.

Are you sure it was deleted and not hidden? You could of also tried from a Ubuntu Live CD.

Thanks for your reply boyzee. The first thing I tried was a Linux Live CD, but it didn't work. Easeus Data Recovery Wizard is the only software that was able to retrieve the Vault from "lost files", but like I mentioned earlier, once I opened it with the True Crypt progam, all the data was corrupted.

It's normal John. The data hadn't become corrupted. Easeus was unable to recover the whole file, I mean all it's structure. It recovered only the parts which was recoverable.
