Google Chrome AutoUpdate issue

Hello,
I've read a lot about googleupdate.exe. there is lots of chaos about the way google products are auto updated.

use chrome for gmail only. today i accidentally clicked about dialogue box in chrome..... & bam........it started checking for the update automatically & installed it w/o asking my permission. now i don't know why google is forcing me to update even if i am not interested.

Is there any way i can stop this annoying silent auto update feature for chrome?

please note that i've deleted all the googleupdate.exe in task mamager.

Plus i've applied the registry tweak mentioned all over the internet. i.e.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Update]
"DisableAutoUpdateChecksCheckboxValue"="1"

(set value to 0 if u want auto update to run every time.)

Is there any solution around this. how to stop this autoupdate freak.

You can stop it through hosts file but you should find the IP which googleupdate.exe connects.

I'm using the current Dev build. It's auto update feature is screwed-up. Not really a big issue to me, but to a stable build... it's face-palm that it lacks an update options. I love controls over it!
