Windows 7 Desktop background
Hi guys,
I have a Laptop running Windows 7 professional.I use it on our domain at work.A colleague of mine at work has the same model, specs and runs the same OS as mine.Administrator has blocked changing of Desktop background which is really boring because by default when you join any Windows 7 machine to the domain, you login and the background is black. My colleague though has managed to change his desktop background and he is able to put his picture.
Is this really possible if one doesn't have administrator's rights to change the policy from the server? If yes how does one achieve this.
Thank you.

You can change it by right clicking a picture and then click Set as Desktop Background, even though the administrator has set the Prevent changing wallpaper property in Group Policy. This will prevent users from changing the wallpaper by using Display Properties. However, if Admin hasn't specified Active Desktop Wallpaper in Group Policy, users can change the desktop wallpaper without using Display Properties. A Guy

Thanks for your reply A Guy.
I have tried this but it won't accept. The funniest thing that i realized again is that some new profile are able to set the background through right click-Personalize-Desktop background. Can i achieve this by changing maybe something on the local group policy or something.
Thanks.

Best idea would be to request the admin and tell him about the prob. Or probably find out the admin pss. In my school i hv found out my comps admin pss.

Since I'll assume the admin of your domain specifically didn't want you to change the wallpaper, I'll give you a possibility without changing windows itself. I can't guarantee this will work, but worth a try, and will cause no harm. Download [url=http://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_pictures/irfanview_portable]Irfanview Portable , put it on a USB. Plug the USB into the PC. Open Irfanview, and open the desired background in it. Choose Options> Set as wallpaper> Centered. See if that works. A Guy
