Re-formatting New HP laptop that came pre-installed with Win7 ho-pre
Hii all,,
its been a long time since my last activity in the forum, glad to be back again(that too with a new laptop, HP dv6-6017tx), it came pre installed with Win7 home premium and a LOT of HP crap software and a trial version of NIS, but i have a KIS license so in no need of Norton,,
I wish to do a re-format of the system, hoping that the computer will actually be personal again, but i am a little worried about my Win license key, if i grab a DVD of Win7 and put the key of pre installed OS, will MS accept it??
or any other ideas( i don't have a recovery CD ,btw)..
Thanks in advance

welcome again to the forum tarung1793...
congrats for your new laptop..
no, it will not accept the key of your old (new since you bought recently
) laptop..
the OS 's key that is the default Win 7 home premium is licensed to other win 7 DVD and its already being used/activated in your new laptop.. same key cannot be activated twice times .. and a new Win 7 key will be required by it.
you can uninstall the crap software using Revo uninstaller free/paid .. regarding Norton and kaspersky.. you can uninstall norton via Norton removal kit depending upon version of Norton ..

Before you do anything do a windows backup using the HP program provided, (boring I know).
It will need 4 DVD's to copy it & take forever (will seem like it)
Once you start playing around with your computer & totally wreck your Windows 7 system, at least you'll have a back up to restore it again !

You can try the [url=http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/]PC Decrapifier . Does HP not provide the installation disk and your windows activation number? A Guy

Another way around this is a tool called ABR it backs up your license and activation, use a win 7 disk of the same OS if it's home premium use home premium, now for the downside i have used this with Vista and it worked perfectly Raymond had a blog on this app and it has been updated for windows 7 use with a usb key. Google first and see what others say as i haven't tried this on windows 7

I bought an Hp Probooks laptop last summer and it didn't come with an installation DVD either, but when I called customer service, they sent me a DVD for Win 7, and another DVD containing the drivers and software that came with my Laptop, for free. I was then able to use those DVD's to re-install Win 7 and just the software I wanted, without all the other stuff I didn't want.

I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

finally, I have decided not to format my PC, just remove what is junk for me, and keep the ABR generated key in a safe place for future, that way i dont have to wait for hooouuurrrrrsssssss waiting for the recovery disc...
