    Raymond,

Just wondering if you have completed the testing yet and if so where can I find the

    results please.

I've noticed in the past that using Revo (free version) to uninstall some Ashampoo

software that Revo sometimes lists registry info for all the Ashampoo programs that are

installed rather than the specific program that I have told Revo to remove. I'm guessing

this is an Ashampoo problem rather than a fault with Revo.

If you have not completed the testing yet, can you suggest a couple of programs that

would be suitable for doing the testing on so that I can perform my own quick testing. I

imagine they would be programs that create a lot of registry entries.

    Thanks.

    Raymond,

Just found an interesting articles (www.7tutorials.com/roundup-software-uninstallers-reviewing-iobit-vs-ashampoo-vs-revo)

I didn't know there would be so much work involved in testing so I think I leave it to the experts.
IObit Uninstaller was their choice so I'll give it a try.

Testing uninstallers is not as easy as it seems because I am constantly researching for the best way to test them. There are a few reviews but I found the test method being used are not accurate to determine the "best uninstaller".

It is not as simple as just 100% cleaning up whatever is installed by the software...

    Hi Raymond,
I use sandboxie and regdiff available at http://www.p-nand-q.com/download/regdiff.html to do some tests like yourself for those uninstallers.... to see what junk was left behind.. what's nice with these 2 utilities is that I can install this in a VirtualPC and make a .reg for a product already installed on my normal system.. (It's not 100% perfect but I've gotta admit I've reduced tons of worthless keys and files from my system)

Best part about using a un-installer in sandboxie is that whatever files are left in the folder is a easy search to find as for the keys a before and after snapshot of the reghiv will do miracles.

Hope this helps in your venture of finding the ultimate app.

Try installing iTunes or any antivirus on Sandboxie and it will fail.
I would prefer to put these uninstallers to test with heavy duties such as iTunes and antivirus
Ooops, I just revealed my secret.

Like Raymond said, Sandboxie doesn't allows to work well with app. that needs to reboot the system.

For app. that doesn't need to reboot I like to check leftovers (Registry and Files) like Hunt4Gold; for that I use SandboxDiff (hxxp://sandboxie.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=23711#23711).

BTW, Raymond maybe you want to check this info I see in this topic (hxxp://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=315414&page=2):

"Revo Free, Revo Pro Payware, IObit Uninstaller and Comodo Programs Manager - all are uninstall app. that can't handle with programs that require reboot".

    Hi Raymond,
Love the challenge let's see what I can do with that Itunes issue...but you did give me a idea though i'm going to do the same method but with Returnil this will let me reboot and re-clean the system afterwards... well I'm off to test theses out I'll post the results when done...I might even try Cameyo (To convert the software to portable app and this tool also contains a installer monitor...

    Well here's the results...

Installing Itunes and running the Itunes.exe located at : D:\Sandbox\Compaq_Owner\ITunes\drive\C\Program Files\iTunes

Give the error message of the type : Program not properly installed...

However I don't give up so easy so you run it again under the "Run from Start Menu" go to Programs -> Itunes -> Itunes and I'm able to run it no problems...

Once you've runned it once and it made it's config files then you can re-launch it my the icon located in the itunes folder and it runs fine.

Next stop getting Anti-Virus softwares to run under sandbox as self-runners... and specific anti-virus program that is more of a pain in the rear to really test.... I'm on sick leave so I'm bored out of my mind.

P.S: The version of Sandboxie that was used is the Registered Version 3.62 on Windows XP Home 32 Bit... this week-end I'll have access to a Windows 7 Machine with 64 bit... going to be doing the same tests

In Sandboxie forum, there are many users that wants to run iTunes in Sandboxie but couldn't do that. Even the author of Sandboxie confirmed that.

That is because Sandboxie is not capable of handling services and drivers (I think) too.

    Hi raymond,
Thanks for your quick reply... found out what the 2 major issues we're on Sandboxie

    - Hardware issues and Quicktime.

I called my friend up who has a Iphone and asked him to drop on by over the week-end so that we can test this out... I am aware of the glitches with some hardware but I'm still sure I can make a .reg uninstaller for itunes without missing a setting.. I'll make this my little challenge . Tzuk (Follows things by the book) well in my case I never read a manual ;-) so I'll give it my best shot... cause I really want to find the ultimate way to never ever have to re-install a windows system again.

Obviously once I get the results I probably wont be able to post them raw so chances are I'll have to e-mail you or give you a link to check it out. The key goal for me is to be able to track the junk and tell theses companies well you forgot one in your uninstaller so that we dont have to do it ourselves.

Best part is the EULA's when they say you must remove or uninstall everything ;-) Hence the small loop hole in doing this... Wouldn't want one of thoses companies suing now do we <<---- Just a bit of humour my new years resolution is to be less uptight.

    Hunt4Gold

P.S: Best results yet I've had was with Total Uninstaller (Even the Freeware version of the old days)
