    Welcome to Raymond Forum hercules.

Start> In search box type Resource Monitor> Enter> Memory tab

It will show you what is using memory. Also important how much memory you have.

My PC has 1G of memory. I looked at memory tab at the Resource Monitor and the ammount of memory used by all process are less than the total memory used.

With how cheap memory is, you might want to look at upgrading that, so it's not so hard in the future to run into this issue. Another thing you might want to consider is turning off all unneeded programs that are running, and turning off all desktop effects.

Although I would agree with Hellnoire about getting some more RAM (1GB or so) if that's possible, Windows 7 should run reasonably on 1GB as long as you don't have a ton of stuff starting up in your system tray.

If after you've booted, the memory usage is >75% or so, there really isn't much left to play with and just opening a browser or something could use up all you have left. Disabling all but the essential startup items could help claw back some and also disabling indexing would help a bit.

Just for reference, my trusty old 1GB laptop happily runs Win 7. Even with a security suite and 3 or 4 other things starting up in the tray, it still only uses ~50% of the memory which leaves enough to do various things without running out.

If you use Task Manager, and switch it to the Processes tab, followed by clicking on the Memory sort at the top, it will list in order what's using the most to the least.

1Gig is really the bare minimum. That said, as to finding out where your memory is being used. It's quite possible your GPU is using shared memory as well if you are running Aero. You can download [url=http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653]Process Explorer and see what is using memory.

    Install more RAM as stated.
disable Windows Aero and unneeded services.

blackviper shows detailed info on services
    blackviper.com

disable auto start programs you dont need.
    startup delayer from r2.com.au
can disable/delete unneeded apps and put a delay on the others.
winpatrol monitors and can put delay and a host of other features.

    worth trying
install and run cleanmem - interesting to see when firefox is hogging memory.
dumps the memory and it starts creeping up again.
    pcwintech.com/cleanmem

    Cheers
