Help Finding Firefox Setting
Can anybody tell me where the setting in firefox is so that I can change it where I have to click on a menu to open it instead of automatically opening when I hover over it?
For example, when I click on the orange firefox button and hover over history, it opens automatically after like 2 seconds. I would like to set it that it doesn't open unless I click it.
I know that you change this setting if you install tuneup utilities but I would hate to have install that whole program just for that setting. It has to be in the about:config somewhere I suppose.
Any help is appreciated

I could only locate where to change the delay for the hover opening:
ui. submenuDelay
Integer
Determines the delay in milliseconds between hovering over a menu option with a submenu and the submenu appearing. If this preference is not set, the OS's value is used
37 Miscellaneous preferences
UI.

Set a high number and it should serve your purpose.

Definitely worth a research because I can't answer your question.
In the mean time, try about:config GUI.

A Guy, I tried looking for that setting in about:config and it was not there, so I added it in and set it to 30 seconds but for some reason, it's not working for me. I looked in the Prefs.js file and the setting I added is in there but it seems to have no effect. Not sure why.
Ray, that add-on is great. It has tons of settings in it, although not the one I'm looking for, It definitely is a good add-on to have.
If tuneup utilities is able to do this in firefox, the setting has to be somewhere in there or at least be able to be added in.
Thanks for the help so far

Seeing that you've posted this question 2 years ago, I am determined to help you out.
http://forum.raymond.cc/software/20662-firefox-setting.html
Installed TuneUp Utilities and found the option "Open menus only via mouse click".
Used SysTracer to track the changes and found that Tuneup Utilities created a new file user.js in the Firefox profile folder.
The following line is added to the user.js file
user_pref("ui.submenuDelay". 65000);
I clicked on the Firefox yellow button, followed by hovering the mouse cursor over to the menus such as History and the submenu still automatically gets expanded without clicking. Something is wrong here as it is not working...
After further testing, I found that this ui.submenuDelay only works on Menu Bar. Try right clicking at an empty space at the bar that is beside a tab and select Menu bar. You will now notice that the submenu bar will only get expanded if you click on it.
So A Guy was right on the spot. You don't really need to manually create the user.js file. Go to about:config, search for ui.submenuDelay and change the value to 65000.
Additional Note: The ui.submenuDelay value is in milliseconds. Tuneup Utilities merely set a pretty long delay which is 65000 milliseconds (65 seconds).
Hope it helps!

Raymond and A Guy,
Thank you so much, this has been bugging me for.....well years! lol
It is weird that only works when the menu bar is displayed and that's why It wasn't working when I tested it earlier. Switching to the menu bar makes it work perfect. Thanks again for taking the extra time to help me out.
I appreciate it.
