Post The File or Directory is Corrupted and Unreadable !!

Hello all . Yesterday on of my buddy was formatting his pc and everything was fine (OS windows xp sp2). Suddenly after copying file process just before the setup checkdisk came up and scanned D, E, F drives for errors. It automatically replaced some index values from D drive and deleted some items (as he told me). After that setup finished. But when he went to my computer he found every drive except c drive was empty and from properties it was showing used space 0 and free space 0. So he again formatted the c drive and as usual checkdisk came up done scanning and then setup was finished this time he got E and F drive back . But not the D drive. Until now when he tries to open d drive it says - D:\ is no accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. So what to do now to get back D drive. Checkdisk is showing total volume and free space amount. That means it contains files and folder. That drive contains urgent documents so can't do format. Any suggestion ??

I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

Hi Indra. Unless someone else has a better idea, your friend could try Easeus Partition Recovery. I have used it before to recover lost partitions.

Checkdisk is limited. It's possible he has bad blocks on the drive. Suggest running the utilities from the HDD manufacturer. Such as Seagate Seatools in DOS mode.

We should always try to avoid Windows checkdisk tool.
Do ask your friend to try out the Easeus Partition Recovery tool suggested by Bearcat to try to recover the partition.
If worse comes to worst, your friend will have to use data recovery tool such as Recuva to recover the missing files.

Yeap I tried Easeus but no result because the D partition exists so it didn't work !!! Unfortunately we can't access it, but it contains all the files and folders. Not had much time so didn't try Recuva. Tomorrow will try and see if it works !!
