Hi guys...my first time here, although I have been a regular reader of Raymond's great blog for some time now. Maybe you can help...
A few weeks ago I installed a trial version of a well-known app, had a brief use of it, then completely forgot about it. Today I downloaded the latest version of the same app....also a trial version. Before installing, I remembered the previous version and uninstalled it. I then proceeded to load the new version. It installed OK, but before I had a chance to open it, a dialog box "Your 21-day trial period has expired" appeared. I scrubbed that, downloaded again and reinstalled. Same story. Obviously there are traces of my earlier installation in my system. I found a few .pf files which I deleted, but there's something still there. Can you suggest what I might use to find and eradicate. Thanks a lot.

Ozpete, welcome! :D
Before we get started, may I know what software is that? Perhaps I can download the trial version and take a look at it.

 Raymond...you are a bloody genius. All now seems to be OK. Incidentally a friend had an earlier version Of Nero which he recently uninstalled prior to downing a new Vista-compatible version. He tells me that after the d/l has been running for a few seconds, the GUI suddenly disappears never to be found sgain!!!
He tried to d/l from another source and exactly the same thing happened. Could this be due to traces of the old installation....which by the way performed beautifully for many months...on his computer? Is he doomed never to get Nero again??? If you have any thoughts, please let me know! (It'll get him off my back!!!);)

A slight...but important..amendment to my previous post. The Nero GUI disappears a few seconds after installation process...not download...commences.

Raymond...thanks for all your help, but felt I should let you know my friend called to say the Nero tools you suggested are not compatible with Vista!

Which version of Nero did your friend installed? v6 or v7?
For v7, try this: http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/Nero_7_Clean_Tool.html
