Please help!!!
I have recently got broadband on my Laptop from BT. On installing the software for the external modem , it also installed "Norton Spyware Scan". This programme caused my System Mechanic 7 software to stop working. On making enquires as to how I could get around this, was informed to remove the "Norton Spware Scan Software". I have tried to do this numerous times to no avail. I have also used the "Norton Removal Tool", to no avail. Please could someone help as I rely on System Mechanic 7 to keep everything running smoothly on my laptop, as it does on my main PC.:(:(:(

Norton Removal Tool should be able to remove "Norton Spware Scan Software" from your system. Any error message you get when you use Norton Removal Tool?
Also, try booting to Safe Mode and run Norton Removal Tool. Maybe there are some running programs in background that prevented Norton Removal Tool from working properly.

First of all, thank you for your help as this is driving me up the wall. Secondly the only messages I got from the removal tool, was that all that all "Norton Software" had been removed. Thirdly "Norton Spyware Scan" software was still not removed in safe mode. And last but not least, I have since found out that this software is not from BT but Yahoo. I found the files in the following:- C:\Program Files\Yahoo\YOP\NSS. The following is a list of files in that folder:- eula, NSS.exe Icon, Readme, SBTE.dll, Unrar.dll, NSS Compilied help file, nssr.dll, SBRC (Sunbelt Counterspy Registry) and SBTEDef.idx files, but there was no uninstall icon. The only other way I can see of solving this problem, would be to uninstall all the BT software and re-install, opting out of the free "Norton Spyware Scan" software. the only problem with this route, is that it took me two and a half months to get it to work properly in the first place.:(:(:(

I didn't know anything about this until now. Are you able to find anything about Yahoo Online Protection in Add or Remove Programs?

Sorry it's took so long to get back to you, but in answer to your question, no. The only References to the program actually being on the laptop, is at C:\Program Files\Yahoo\YOP\NSS, the Registry entry and the fact that when I go online is is a Icon on BT Internets Homepage. From what I can gather, the program was only meant to work from within the confides of the Internet. It was never meant as a external program within Windows. I have also tried deleting and renaming the Registry entry to no avail, cause once I re-start my laptop, its there up and running...:(:(:(
