ok, i agree that u provided a simple way to convert dvd to mkv format. but i forgot to tell u that it should also produce a 10/10 audio & video quality and above all the size should not be more than a single CD.
as i have seen many mkv format films are just 600mb in and around... that too for a near 3 hrs movie...
with the best quality. even xvid and avi couldnt able to produce that much great clarity . i have compared it and agreed that its simly the best available format to have...
could u pls tell me whats the difference between x264 and mkv in terms of quality & size difference ??
i am really curious to know from u that which one is best in terms of quality as well as output file size...
pls through a light on this aspect....

My reasonings and experience:
1. I think MKV is a very good quality, and so far it's very good.
2. However, I still wouldn't say there is a best quality format out there yet, if you want best quality, it will be something like Blu-Ray or HD-Disc (Obsolete soon).
3. If not mistaken, x264 is a HD (High Definition Quality). MKV is just a format, the x264 is the way it was compressed.
4. xvid and divx uses high compression, which means, it reduces the size of the video. However, the ironic is that it gives you lower quality video
5. avi formats are RAW video formats that doesn't undergo compression (divx, mkv, or xvid), which means, it will have a very huge, large size.
6. mp4 is also an option for good quality video ;).
Last but not least, everything depends on how you compress the video, the higher the compression, the lower the quality of video.
