Hi guys. On the two or three occasions I have loaded Vista, it has been to an IDE drive, so these drivers have not been necessary to include during installation.
Am I correct in assuming these drivers are necessary only if the HDD with the Vista OS is a Sata drive? Or put another way, if Vista is installed to an IDE drive, can I add a SATA HDD for archive or backup purposes...and/or optical SATA drives...without the need to go through the process of adding these drivers?
(I hope this makes sense!!) Thanks a lot.

The drivers are only necessary when installing Windows.
Let's say you have Windows Vista on HDD1, then you add in another HDD2, Windows will just detect it and map it to a new drive letter.

Thanks Raymond. I assumed this was the case but thought I would check before buying the drives.

Vista can detect your SATA Drive automatically not depend on the type of your OS drive.
