I just built a desktop gaming computer today.

everything seemed to worked perfect, except when I tried to install the OS. I have the windows vista ultimate x64 I got from an iso. I burnt it and set the IDE dvd burner I have to boot first. I turned on the comp with the vista dvd inside and it went to the vista installation stuff. During it is installing, it freezes on me when im about 30% through "expanding files". The entire screen is frozen, I can't operate my mouse. I am forced to manually reboot after 10 minutes of waiting for something to happen. after that, I get a "Bootmgr missing press ctrl alt del to reboot" and I do it, and it keeps on coming up. I also tried to set the hdd to boot first, still.

    Can anyone help?

Have you tried reinstalling again? If the same problem exist, you might have a bad CD. Perhaps you can try installing XP and see if you encounter any problems.

Suggest you burn a new disc using a good IOS Burning Tool such as UltraISO.
Physiclly remove any additional graphics cards that you might have installed for your gaming, for the time being and all but 1GB of your RAM.
Set the systems BIOS to boot from CD first. Insert the CD and reboot. On completion of the OS installation shutdown the PC and reinstall any additional RAM.
Reset the BIOS to boot from the HDD. Restart the PC.
When you are satisfied all is well shutdown and reinstall any additional graphics card.
When the system reboots it will recognise your new hardware and follow the instructions for its installation.

Make sure your system, applications, and all devices are compatible with a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista before installing.

First of all update your bios and then try installing windows XP with a working CD. If you dont have it, get it from your friends or someone else.

Have a look at this site regarding your motherboard. Please read the 3 pages. Page 1 overview Page 2 installation and page 3 Gaming.
You may have overlooked something during installation and set up because I see from the article that the board is supplied with 2 motherboard installation CD`s and which one you use depends on which version of Windows you are to use for your o/s.
I am not saying that is your problem but it is a good place to start. Installation of the correct drivers etc for your motherboard and intended OS is needed. http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/msi_p6n_diamond/index.shtml
