    If Kaspersky is 99%
I would give Norton a 98% - this is my personal view and may be far from real truth :)

I agree with Brayden but I also accept that Norton is pretty good too. Since Kaspersky=Norton(almost equal in performance)so, Let's have a comparison between Kaspersky and Norton (on the basis of Antivirus Updates)

    Kaspersky Norton
    1 hour =1 update 3 Days=4 Update
    24 hours=24 updates 30 Days=40 Updates
    24X30 hours(1 month)=720 Updates 40 Updates=Good Protection

    720 Updates= R.I.P Viruses :D 40 Updates=Good Protection(but<Kaspersky)

It's unfair to consider 'updates release frequency' as a major basis for comparison. 720 Updates doesn't mean anything. It's NOT the updates that makes KIS a good product, it's the virus detection and heuristic analysis.
And Norton 2009 is better than KIS in all aspects except the important thing i.e virus detection. In coming days, I'll test Norton 2009 thoroughly on all types of virus kinds. Probably then I'll be able to give a fair review or a definite conclusion.
    Norton 2009 + Kaspersky Virus Detection = 100 %

yes. updates are good. but there unfair to compair. as some virusgurds 1 update can detect(sometimes 5 other virus).

the best ways as far as i know.

    1. how has the new version changed compared to the previous version.
    2. self protection
    3. memory useage.
    4. features.
    5. scanning speed

Yes but 720 Updates from Kaspersky really means Game Over for Viruses. This hourly update improves the detection rate of Kaspersky and is the main reason why Kaspersky is ruling. Kaspersky also has a great customer support. Even Symantec has great support in India.
This is why Indian Railways has employed Kaspersky to guard its PCs.

Hmmm If prashanthpai is praising Norton 2009 so much, then I think I should try it on my XP. But I would leave my Vista with Kaspersky only. Actually I use XP for 'experiments' and all the hard-blows are done on XP by me. I keep my Vista relatively better.

BTW prashanthpai, do you use Norton 2009 trial or Registered?

Even I use XP to experiment and I keep Vista clean. I removed KIS from XP and installed the 15 day trial N2009. I would leave my Vista with N360 v2 only :P
Team EDGE should work day and night for us. If I was rich, I would surely have funded them for their work
And choice of AV depends upon user and convenience and his/her tastes. I like Symantec whereas the rest of people here are Kaspersky fans. This does NOT necessarily mean that I say Norton is better than KIS. And as long as we are general home users, it doesn't matter much - We don't have to be so paranoid about security as long as we are aware of what we do. But in corporate environments, the correct AV choice does count.

Some people are really ignorant about viruses. Yesterday, I had been to printing shop to get some documents and pics printed and I had carried my pen-drive. I came home and Norton found 11 different viruses in it ? Can you believe that ? Considering that thousands of people visit that shop for printing purposes with portable devices, imagine how virus will spread ? That shop has around 15 PCs in network. They SHOULD have installed a proper anti-virus.

Indian Railways ? I don't know how that fits into the scene. It doesn't have any critical system to protect and some of it's technology techniques are still manual, mechanical and analogue.

just found dudes. kaspersky doesnt give updates every 1 hour. it just like 3 time a day. you can see it if you keep the curroser over the k icon it will say what update you have. i checked. the database changed only 3 times.
