recovering windows with product key only
I had recently got a file with at least 10 or more nasty viruses in it and usually I have fun fighting them. I have never lost a fight with one or really even had any data loss or errors from anything in the 7 years I have been on a computer, but I lost this time. I can now only boot in safe mode with networking. My partition with the Windows Install backup had been formatted (don't as me why) and I don't have the Windows disk, but I do have my product key and it is legit. I was told today that I can fix my system as long as I have my Windows Product Key. I imagine maybe they send you the software or you can download maybe? Can you help me here? I had tried repairing in the recovery console, but I'm not sure if I did it right because it said it couldn't find the file when I tried to "copy c:\windows\repair\system", but the system.bak and software.bak are in their right places. system restore even successfully restored to and earlier date so I imagine there are files missing or something. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Call Your Computer Manufacture, then order a backup CD. HP provides it clients if they want to buy the backup operating system.
Another way is calling Microsoft tech supports. Request new Window installer and provide your genuine code. Remember that you have genuine license code, exchange for a new one because Microsoft policy wants clients to change the license code if they are reformatting Window from a DVD backup.
HOPE this help

Backup your files to any external HDD ( viruses gets copied too ) To avoid this you can use bootable AV rescue discs to remove viruses. http://forum.raymond.cc/42669-post1.html
And then do a clean reinstall of XP and use your product key. The manufacturer will give you a CD or a recovery CD.

By manufacturer do you mean like Dell? My computer is a Dell Dimension 5100. Or do you mean Microsoft for the Windows program? I need to find out the link to the manufacturer/

I mean the OEM provider i.e Dell
You need to contact the vendor.

If you have a Dell computer, you'll have to request it from Dell. Most probably you'll have to pay for the CD/DVD discs.
