Click Start then Run and enter everything from the Code box into the run box and then click OK.
    Code:
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\Combofix" /u

    Note:
The space between the Combofix" and the /u must be there.

    The above procedure will
    • Delete ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • Reset the clock settings.
    • Hide file extensions, if required.
    • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
    • Set a new, clean Restore Point.

hi, i have only been following the guidance in this thread.
i think that since i have deleted some files and used combofix problems increased. atr one stage i could not reboot, would not start.
    Comment:

    Files to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\SET34.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\SET23.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\SET21.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\SET33.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\SET22.tmp
    C:\WINDOWS\SET20.tmp

    Drivers to delete:
    abp470n5

noticed that my internet explorere7 does not work too. only frirefox is working

sorry hart , i misunderstood what u asked, yes i did do all the repairs in the other thread.

I cannot launch IE7 and firefox directs downloads to desktop which comes up with error messages saying contents cannot be changed or cannot be accessed

Do you have an XP CD?

If so, place it in your CD ROM drive and follow the instructions below:
    • Click on Start > Run and type sfc /scannow then press Enter (note the space between scf and /scannow)
      • Let this run undisturbed until the window with the blue progress bar goes away

SFC - Which stands for System File Checker, retrieves the correct version of the file from %Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache or the Windows installation source files, and then replaces the incorrect file.
