Thank you
RETURNIL VS 2010 (both free and lux - paid) has two issues
1) It might delete all restore points in Vista
2) CPU usage is high (who uses a mono core processor would prefer to keep RVS 2008)
RETURNIL is currently investigating about those problems, within a week they will release a new version to address those issues

Classic Auto Buff
Have been using Returnil 2010 for the past week now and haven't had any issues, but I do have a quad core processor so that might be reason why.

Known and issues on the current version RVS 2010.
Stated at Wilders Returnil Thread
* Not able to download A/V database ( Fixed !)
* Excessive CPU usage on client ( Did not experience it )
* Not able to register a license ( Fixed !)
* Management console is very slow ( Did not experience it )
If you're not ready to face those issues yet then best to say is to went back to RVS 2008 Premium/Personal.( *same as leofelix suggestion )
While waiting for the right stable release, I went back and now evaluating RVS Labs - v. 2.1.5.3083 instead of RVS 2008 Premium. Personally to check the coming new features on future RVS version/product updates: see the screen shots below.
- Majority of features in RVS 2008 and more
- New kernel support for Windows 7 + Added protection for extended partitions
- Ability to exclude all contents of a folder + A new engine for driver load firewall
- Exit protectoin without a restart on the extended partition + Protection of defragmentation
- Update 3083: Fixed the System Restore issue in Vista and Win 7
- Update 3077: Extend Protection now support FAT16 partition
- Update 3069: Added HIPS, Fixed "update issue"

Does the free version of returnil allows av database to be save?
Thoughts are like a never ending ocean where it is deep, endless and dangerous

I experienced restore points deletion after installling RETURNIL 2010 final on my HP laptop running Vista (Intel Dual Core 1.8 Ghz - 4 Gb DDR2 RAM), but I have my restore DVD and I usually perform monthly backups.
Then I created other restore points and they were no more deleted.
Instead I experienced high CPU usage on my Toshiba Laptop with XP home (Pentium IV 2.8 Ghz and 1 Gig DDR1 RAM).
No problems in my desktop PC with XP Pro (Intel core duo 1.8 Ghz - 4 GB DDR2 RAM 800)

Sorry, but an antivirus which is not able to save its own data base is completely useless.
Perhaps you'e referring to a small bug which RETURNIL 2010 has had: its antivirus couldn't update for some hours.
However I disabled RETURNIL 2010 (F-Prot engine) antivirus feature, it is only able to perform a very quick scan and I use another antivirus with real time protection.

@leofielix, you misunderstand me. Returnil returns your system to the date it was install everytime you reboot your PC righ?
So even if you download the virus database, it will be gone the next moment you reboot your PC right?
However, ceyfer mention sometime back, the only way to have the latest virus definition is have the paid version of Returnil as the free version do not have that option...
Correct me if I am wrong.

Yes. Update your AV only when Safe System is off.
Based on my initial observation you can only update the Virus Guard effectively when Safe System is off. Just deactivate Virus Guard ( leofelix suggestion #8 ) if you're using another Realtime AV.

That's was the idea before. Returnil is still offering the same full working freeware security application on this 2010 version.
*Comparison RVS 2010 versions clearly stated by Mike
1.
Unregistered free: Antimalware feature is available only for a limited time (30 days) and then will not be available until/unless registered. If not registered, virtualization and virtual disk features are still available.
2.
Home Free: Antimalware feature is available without restrictions
3.
Home Lux: Full commercial version for home and business
4.
Home Lux with Returnil Commander: Full commercial version with access to remote management.
5.
Enterprise Classic: Network version with remote client management and without antimalware component.
6.
Enterprise Premeir: Network version with remote client management and antimalware feature
* Home Free ( freeware / register-ware )
Does not have the ff features:
- File Manager
- Lost license recovery
- Customer Support
