True...I agree..but there's also a lose-lose-lose situation

1. Windows lose $$$ (obviously)
2. Since Windows pirates still get to download MS updates, some of these pirates don't see a 'good reason' to go genuine...apart from the advantage of premium support
3. Some Windows genuine users who paid hundreds of $$$ (excluding those who use OEM) would not be happy to know that their advantage is premium support 'only'...it's not justifiable in their eyes for the pirates to get the updates...

If I'm a pirate (I'm not), I wouldn't know whether to update or not...somehow it feels morally wrong for me to do so...

I think there is more to it that just their security perpective.

What do you think what would happen if lowscum integrityless windows pirates like me were for some reason unable to use their OS?

They would do either of two things: dish out the money and buy a genuine WIndows or move to Linux (WINE and OpenOffice can go a long way). That would be NOT GOOD for Microsoft.

It is better to have pirates then lose a significant chunk of your close-to-monopoly and run the risk of serious competition.

Right.. The 'big' money one would pay for genuine os can be better invested for fulfilling other needs of life. Moreover, its not affordable even for many people..
Afterall, computers aren't the air necessary for survival..
