A-squared Anti Malware v. 5.0 beta
hi...public beta for A2 v5 is available....http://support.emsisoft.com/topic/1432-a-squared-anti-malware-5-0-public-beta-has-arrived/
To get access to the newest version of a-squared Anti-Malware please activate the "Install Beta updates" option in your Update Configuration.
main features:
Enhanced real time malware scanning
a-squared Anti-Malware 5.0 offers additional real time scanning modes except on-execution. While on-execution scanning is extremely resource efficient and provides excellent security people may want to use on-access scanning as it is done by most other security products. While we still recommend our on-execution scan it is now possible to scan files whenever they arrive or are changed on your system as well as every time they are accessed.
and
Support for x64 architectures...All features available on x86 platforms are now available on x64 platforms as well. There is no longer any difference between those two platforms.
Life is all about ass; you're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, or behaving like one.

Yes, I had mine set up to download beta, and it downloaded the new version when I ran update today. It has a new GUI as well. Always liked A Squared, whether free or the full. A Guy

Known issue atm...
Please be aware that this is beta software. There is still a lot of polish to be done to get it to release. We recommend not to use it on productive system without a recent backup. The following problems are known:
- On some systems some CPU spikes and slow downs were reported in conjunction with the behavior blocker and surf protection.
- Due to the on-access scan features a-squared Anti-Malware may no longer be compatible to additional real time anti-virus software on your system.
- The behavior blocker is still a bit noisy and produces more alerts than usual. We will try to reduce alerts during the public beta.
- On Windows 7 with UAC enabled surf protection may not work on Internet Explorer 8 unless you deactivate "protected mode".

the protected mode in IE8 is automatically switcted on only when UAC is set to max...i.e always notify..not otherwise

not going to test this as the "stable" version 4.5 doesn't give me good experience while it looks like not much improvement made to version 5 beta...perhaps I will wait for a while. Thanks for information.

If you have the beta installed, read this:
NOTE! Because of a serious bug in the updater system, the version 5.0 beta is currently offline and can’t be downloaded at all. Please check again in a few hours.
For all users who already have installed the first 5.0 Beta build it his HIGHLY recommended to uninstall Anti-Malware completely and reinstall 4.5 to start over again. It can’t update automatically to the next beta build. If you try so, you’ll most likely experience a system crash.

That is the reason I don't want to use Beta versions of security software.

Protected mode can be ticked or unticked anytime by accessing Internet Options from IE 8 browser instead of the Control Panel. I have UAC disabled on Windows 7 x64.
It doesn't get turned on automatically by any of the UAC settings.
