Do you reckon the following is a decent combo?

Panda cloud (or immunet + clamAV)

outpost firewall pro (or online armor premium)

    MBAM (on demand scanner)

    + zemana

Your statement regarding with Trend Micro was quite underrated. Trend Micro IS works light & stable on my old Win Xp platform and probably will work just fine for most home users. Overall the protection modules are good enough to stop majority of the malware. Surprisingly Web Protection module is sufficient enough to stop online/web based threats which is a major concern.

    Web Protection Add-On ( Stand Alone ).
