    BitDefender users Beware

    For any BitDefender users that don't already know, an automatic update that was released this morning is causing BitDefender to give false positives on thousands of system files.

    It claims the files are infected with the Trojan.fakealert.5. It has screwed my friends system up and now a lot of his programs won't run. You can also read the forum thread here http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=18759

    Some users are even claiming their system shutdown and won't reboot normally, while other can't stop BitDefender because it saw itself as a Trojan and quarantined itself.

    very unfortunate for the company to have such a problem.. not to mentioned the damage it has done to its users as well..

    Makes them a little scary to trust doesn't it? Much like when Avast released an update that trashed a sh!t load of systems just before the release of 5

    When bitdefender went mad

    read here........http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=18759&st=0

    The problem is only affecting users of the x64 versions

    firefox.exe => quarantined
    system files => quarantined
    turn off real time scanning,
    reboot => no more bitdefender cause it has quarantined itself!
    I'm getting this too. Before I could shut off BitDefender it quarantined most of my system, including BitDefender itself!

    What do I do? Most programs do not work. The computer barely booted (did some kind of repair first).

    How do I unquarantine the files without BitDefender?

    HELP!
    Bitdefender is going crazy today!!!... it blocks all the EXE files including cmd.exe....the trojan name called fake5
    Hurry up...we need fixes soon
    I've turned the realtime protection!
    Life is all about ass; you're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, or behaving like one.

    Link to the post.
    Does it mean that BitDefender employee not using BitDefender software?

    Edit:
    Another dude from BitDefender Labs said:
    We are sorry for the inconvenience.
    OK, It was their fault. They screwed up their customer computer. Now they just post it in the forum with a plain text "We are sorry for the inconvenience."?
    FAIL

    I have their AV in retail box. I got it for $5 after rebate. I'm glad that I haven't touched it yet.

    Unfortunately we are not able to make a patch which can be copied to a bootable device. Therefore, if the operating system is not loading in Normal mode you will not be able to use the patch. Please follow the steps from this post in order to backup your data using Rescue CD and then use a Windows CD in order to make a System restore or Startup recovery.

    Thank you for your understanding.
