eScan Anti Virus & Spyware Toolkit Utility as an on demand scanner
I have posted about eScan Anti Virus & Spyware Toolkit Utility before here
http://forum.raymond.cc/security-bul...-released.html
This tool contains escan engine and signatures and offers scan and clean. But like Eset Online Scanner you have to choose before scanning whether you would like to clean found threats or not. But as eScan has frequent FPs, it is not recommended.
Now the installer for this tool when executed extracts the files in %temp% directory and runs the program from that. It also offers update before scanning. That signatures will be downloaded in that directory. So, next time if you clean that folder with any software like CCleaner all the files extracted and signatures downloaded will be gone. So here is the work around.
1. Download the installer from here or here (both are direct download links)
2. Extract the installer mwav.exe (82.3 Mb) with 7 Zip/ AlZip to a folder say mwav.
3. Copy that folder to any place you want. I kept that in C Drive.
4. Now open that folder and search for mexe.exe
5. Run that file, it will load the interface and you will be prompted to download signatures before scanning.

6. The signatures will be downloaded in a folder called TEMP under mwav and then will be installed to Plugins folder.
7. You can run anytime mexe.exe to start the tool. It can also be taken in a USB Drive and used as a portable scanner, which can run from USB Drive.
The signature size is not very large but the folder size is presently 517Mb...

I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

Thanks sujay. Interesting on demand scanner, but I have no idea about its relative efficiency.

Hi Boyfriend.. According to AVC results it is good at detection + removal.. But that time it used Kaspersky + own engine. But now it is using Bitdefender. And may be due its own engine it has started making few FPs on clean files. It used to do so in past but it almost recovered from that at the end of last year.. But it has come again...

Thanks sujay. Most of current antiviruses on the market are using now BitDefender engine (G-DATA, F-Secure, BullGuard, etc.). Perhaps, Kaspersky AV engine kit is too costly as well as strict LOA.
I will test eScan Anti-Virus & Spyware Toolkit Utility efficiency on an infected computer after complete data backup.
