If your looking to add realtime security, look at superantispyware. If you just want to run a scan every o0ther day to so, hitman pro would be a good choice.
You could also look at windows security essentials, which is compatible with most anything.

There are a lot Virtumonde aka Vundo variants: one of the vectors of a rogue infection.
MBAM and SAS can actually remove the most of the variants of Virtumonde/Vundo

CounterSpy was a very good antyspyware, then Microsoft bought its engine for the former Microsoft AntiSpyware now known as Windows Defender
well , my av norton detected it and even removed it
still i got the problem so i tried kaspersky , same thing happened then a person in a forum told me that av wont remove it as it copies again as its deleted
they suggested couterspy and it did the job
i didnt knew abt MBAM at that time
also i also dont know abt java update , i think it does automatically (as i dont update it now also )
Love me , Hate me but you just can't Ignore me

@ neo: to keep a clean system is not so diffucult
Always keep it up to date, the same for Sun Java JRE, Adobe products and your main browser.
Practice a safe surfing, avoid P2P software and download software only from trusted sources.
Using and antivirus and a firewall in a vulnerable system may help to mitigate malware attacks, not to prevent from being infected
Prevention is better than care
