Hacker hits Kaspersky (USA) website with 'Scareware'
Scammers who try to trick victims into downloading fake antivirus software can strike almost anywhere. On Sunday they hit the website of Kaspersky Lab, a well-known antivirus vendor.
"As a result of the attack, users trying to download Kaspersky Lab's consumer products were redirected to a malicious website," the antivirus vendor said. The website caused a pop-up window to appear that simulated a virus scan of the user's PC, and offered to install an antivirus program that was in fact bogus.
Security experts say the safest thing to do when one of these fake antivirus messages pops up is to simply kill the Web browser. On Windows, this can be done by hitting ctrl-alt-delete and ending the browser process in the Task Manager.

Thank you Boyfriend this is one of the last things i would expect to happen on Kaspersky's website, bit of a smack in the face, it's the response that interests me most and can only make other vendors more cautious, at best we will only hear of half the story, MS must be under constant attack each day.

Slap on the face to the seemingly infallible Kaspersky

Guys, Successful attack is possible on any sites. It is not specific to any vendor. Kaspersky products are becoming popular and that is only reason hackers tried to hack their site. Almost every major vendor sites are under constant attack. Some disclose such information responsible while other do not. Such attacks also make other vendors more conscious and they take further steps. It is cat and mouse game.

Have to agree with you BoyFriend as i would imagine if MS where to publish the attacks it would be along read, i admire Kaspersky more for saying this happened than trying to hide the fact, it was more of shock to be honest as it's news i wasn't expecting, whatever the most popular site is it's going to be targeted, and we were unfortunate here not so long ago..
These hackers need to get a life, they could turn their efforts into making decent software or helping others..

I can see some newbie pirates having a great time dealing with rogue when they had just downloaded that patch from a torrent site to 'crack' Kaspersky (and they were just about to download the installer from Kaspersky site itself)....what a lovely world, isn't it?

Too easy target, I'm just reading server side obfuscation article and suddenly this news came out...
Kaspersky themselves need a Good Firewall
Not firewall, intensive security check of their own backyard. Then the next question is? does the product able to blocked it somehow? The phase on this incident is just too fast and a simple reboot of their site is needed to control the said incident. PR control is that me? Yes! Even our beloved forum is susceptible to like attacks. Just be vigilant guys!
