Thumbs up Chromium Dev Build Released with Sandbox Flash

Google has announced a new developer test version of its Chrome Web browser that will place the code of Adobe's Flash Player plug-in in it's own sandbox. For now, the update just applies to the Windows Versions of the browser.

This first iteration of Chrome's Flash Player sandbox for all Windows platforms uses a modified version of Chrome's existing sandbox technology that protects certain sensitive resources from being accessed by malicious code, while allowing applications to use less sensitive ones. This implementation is a significant first step in further reducing the potential attack surface of the browser and protecting users against common malware.
This week, we’re excited to roll out the initial Flash Player sandbox for our dev channel users on Windows XP, Vista and 7.

This initial Flash Player sandbox is an important milestone in making Chrome even safer. In particular, users of Windows XP will see a major security benefit, as Chrome is currently the only browser on the XP platform that runs Flash Player in a sandbox. I've always had an issue or another with the Chrome browser, especially with the beta and dev channel releases. E.g.: RAM usage is way too high (luckily there's 'help' in the form of CleanMem and Minimem), random slowdown in browsing speed on some sites, lock-ups (esp. on Dev releases, less on Beta channel), etc etc. And I'm talking about naked Chrome without add-ons or something like EMET messing around with it.

The stable release is the 'luckiest' though...so not all is bad. I've kinda grown to the idea of sticking to stable releases when it comes to Chrome...

Firefox remains as my primary browser till date...it still feels the most compatible browser on my PC. Perhaps not the fastest according to benchmarks made by others but at the very least on my PC, the speed is kinda constant and the stability is better in comparison.

It's funny that different people have different experiences. Others have had issues with Firefox and are on the other hand, having great time using Chrome. Erggh...why can't it all be the same?

I mean Chrome stable. EMET is off/on same dilemma, add-ons off still the same issue. Multiple tabs locked-ups & death flash/shockwave plugin. Crashed is quite rare but always imminent when you lose your patience. I sent the said issue to Chrome team, a wave of good luck to them.

Firefox, IE and Opera ( replaced Chrome ) are my browsers for a moment. All configured and sanitized for my convenience.

There were many factors that affects the browser and browsing experience. The OS, security apps, add-ons, plugins, GPUs, Ram, Net-speed and so on.

Thanks for the news. That's a bold step indeed. But in my case too dev version have some problems with Shockwave plugin.

And it takes up to 290 MB spaces on your HD (Chrome 8.0.552.215). Much much bigger compared to FF 3.6.12 (~28 MB) and Opera 11 beta (~17 MB).

so far testing out Chrome.. seem to be having the same prob of it locking up randomly.. been using about a day or 2 and has happend like once ... also does seem to be quite the memory hog.. heck..1 tab maybe 2.. and seems like it uses up 7-9processes :P might keep testing. does seem to be a bit faster than FF beta7 so far.. but 1 thing noticed is i can DL my torrents from the sites with FF but i cant with Chrome.. the ISP here blocks downloading from them.. i can view but not DL.. but some how I can get around that with FF but not Crhome ;P odd
