Award Star From Brain to Stuxnet: 25 Years of PC Viruses

Twenty-five years ago, Brain, the first PC virus, was released into wild.
It could only travel from one PC to another by physically inserting contaminated 5.25-inch floppy disks. That made "going viral" in 1986 pretty difficult.

Yet the concept of a computer virus became viral almost immediately, sparking a hobbyist revolution that became a criminal venture in the early 2000s - right around the time broadband hit all the big cities. From the first amateur hackers in the 80s till 2011 when international cyber sabotage is a reality, viruses have illustrated the frightening potential of human ingenuity when combined with dangerous intentions.
Here's a brief look back how computer viruses have evolved through the most important outbreaks of the last 25 years.
