Pretty simple! Scan it via contextual menu.

    Screw Google! Ask me!

Some antivirus has the capability of auto scanning USB flash drives whenever it is plugged in.
But you can manually do that via context menu, right click on the drive and select Scan.

Namely Bitdefender and Kaspersky has this option. Most of the time, the contextual scan will suffice or atleast if you have forgotten to check it, your av realtime module is design to KO any malware, whether it's in passive/reactive state.

Emsisoft and Sunbelt VIPRE too. I am Kaspersky user. I tweak custom scan (also used for flash scan) to highest settings for better detection (be careful, might also cause FPs). Personally, I prefer context menu scan as it is flexible and can be done as per requirement.

Avg has that option too .
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.
