Bug Fake Microsoft update : Malware disguise in it !!!!

An email from Microsoft claiming that you need a security update? Beware, this is not from Microsoft but rather it is a spam attempt at getting you to download malware. Do not download .

This email was initially sent in French, but may be showing up in different languages. The file name for this particular nasty is SECURITY_FIX_0231.exe. Already, antivirus manufacturers are scrambling to provide updates to combat this newest internet threat.

    Subject: URGENT: Critical Security Update
    Message Body:
    Dear Microsoft Customer,
Please notice that Microsoft company has recently issued a Security Update for Microsoft Windows OS.
The Security Update is to prevent malicious users from getting access to your computer files.
The update applies to the following OS versions:
Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft XP, Microsoft Windows 7.
Please notice, that present update applies to high-priority updates category. In order to help protect your computer against security threats and performance problems, we strongly recommend you to install this update.
Since public distribution of this Update through the official website would have result in efficient creation of a malicious software, we made a decision to issue this security update via e-mail. In order to start the update, follow these steps:
    1. Download the update using the following link:
    hxxp://txxxxxxx/newxxxxxx/users/micxx.ca/update/SECURITY_FIX_0231.exe
    2. Double-click on SECURITY_FIX_0293.exe to start the installation.
This is an Automated Message produced by Microsoft Canada Co., Please Do Not Reply.

Interesting ehh ?? Do not download it and run it other wise..... .

    Source & more .
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

An email from Microsoft claiming that you need a security update...+attachment?
The trick is very bogus and obvious! MS updates is run strictly via Windows update manager or from other legitimate third-party updater/client. This is a very simple trick that our very own heuristic detection system can detect and ignore it for good. LOL

Thanks for the warning Indra. I usually wait until Windows notifies me that there are updates available, so I don't pay attention to e-mail messages of that sort.

I Don't agree with Bearcat and jj1two3, I will not let Windows tell me what to do. I will check for updates whenever I want. I am the ruler. Windows is my servant. I can torture it. I can make money off of it. I can make it pretty or ugly. I can Delete it.

Thank you luffy you cheered me up with that reply Windows can warn you of updates but you choose the updates you want to install... and there is a system restore point if you use it that is.

I'll let them notify me because that is part of their job ( obligation ) and install it later if its relevant to my needs. Your setup is good only for power user who always read the MS update bulletin before adapting the patch, which is likely a hassle & not recommended for the majority of Pc users. Anyhow, what matters most is, you keep your environment always updated regardless of what method you choose.
