Avira Has Gone Over To The Dark Side

Remember all those toolbars expecially the pesky ASK toolbar? Well, Avira has decided to push that toolbar to its free user if they want to have an additional protection; Webguard. The paid version is also not spared.

Avira has been sending emails to users of their PAID products urging them to install Registry Booster from Uniblue. They have also again started up the Notifier Ads (which had been abandoned for Avira 10 a few months ago) for the free product so they can badger users to install Registry Booster and other UniBlue products.

Until now, Avira has always detected ASK toolbar as malware as they have also detected Uniblue products until now.

Looks like the "Skywalker" family have issue with the dark side.

On to more serious things, it is bad for thier business. I am sure they will lose lots of customers with this bundle whether paid of free.

Thanks for the news, LunarWolf. Very sad indeed. I wonder what Avira benefits from this? I thought they wouldn't need such kind of actions. Sad day. Maybe all of us, Avira users, could send them a sign about what we think...

Interesting LunarWolf and sad at the same time, they must need the extra revenue, and they are not doing as well as made out, the competition is too much for them maybe...as long as the toolbar is optional then it should be no problem for most, but for some installing the toolbar especially from avira will happen as you would expect to be safe.... not nice at all..........

I have read in wilders that you can't use web guard if you uninstall the toolbar. They are tied to each other. This is bad

One word sad not a good move by them. Revenue is the thing that matters .
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.
