cloud or not this is the question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

friends since Cloud technology is on the go for the moment and will become the very trend of the near future (if it has not yet become) can you give out reasons why should cloud have the priority ? For instance Panda has a cloud version of its antivirus and it will implement the firewall and other technologies in the near future to its CLOUD version 2 . There are more examples of cloud implementation from cloud antivirus , cloud computing, cloud office etc.

    To Gery,

Don't be confused of the term cloud. Generally, this forum, your email accounts, social networking sites, were already in the cloud even though it is being hosted physically thru box servers. Now, if you're thinking about the trend, yes, it is likely that the cloud is the new "in", and it's evolving so fast.

    Read:
    • Cloud computing refers to the use and access of multiple server-based computational resources via a digital network (WAN, Internet connection using the World Wide Web, etc.). Cloud users may access the server resources using a computer, netbook, pad computer, smart phone, or other device. In cloud computing, applications are provided and managed by the cloud server and data is also stored remotely in the cloud configuration. Users do not download and install applications on their own device or computer; all processing and storage is maintained by the cloud server. The on-line services may be offered from a cloud provider or by a private organization.

    • Cloud security is not to be confused with security software offerings that are "cloud-based" (a.k.a. security-as-a-service). Many commercial software vendors have offerings such as cloud-based anti-virus or vulnerability management.

First, if done right by AV companies, they can detect a virus the moment they are release. But as far as I can see, they didn't succeed yet. It will definitly increase protection as user gets real time protection from the virus lab company without the need to wait for updates.

Cloud storage is already an old news. Heard of file sharing sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, Mediafire and others? Those allow to upload your files and download it from anywhere/anytime in the world. One thing good about file hosting site is they help to reduce the storage space if you are running out of space on your hard disk. It also allows you to backup our files in case your hard disk malfunction.

As for cloud AV, I am not sold yet. I perfer traditional AV + partial cloud. Something like Kaspersky.

Cloud is the future, whether someone likes it, or not. It's a way to more effectively combat the increasing number of malware on internet. Immunet, Panda, Bluepoint, Trend Micro....more and more coming...

At present , dont depend too much on cloud for security ... we still need normal signature based AV ... atleast for now

I have used Panda, Immunet and Prevx and they all worked well and use little resources but they all missed things that my signature based AV caught. I think they are a good extra layer of security for your system.
