Mobile Malware - What you Need to Know !!!!

The rise of mobile malware has been a top story of 2011. From June 2010-January 2011, malware for the Android operating system rose by 400%! Malware creators follow the crowds, and mobile web browsing is huge. Some experts predict the amount of mobile malware to double this year.

Here goes a nice infograph :-

I personally is strongly against mobile phones that is online 24/7, meaning they are connected via 3G/4G etc...

I can't imagine the damage it can do if there is a trojan installed on a mobile phone that allows the attacker to:
    1. Read all text messages in the phone
    2. Check all incoming/outgoing calls
    3. Access to all saved photos and videos
    4. Auto record phone call conversation and upload to a remote FTP
    5. Turn on phone's camera for live capture
    6. Voice spy
    7. Keylogger, capturing web browsing activities

A modern phone is becoming like a computer. All the above is possible with a talented programmer.

If I get to choose, I would use the good old Nokia 3310. It won't break even if you drop it!

Currently using a ( prepaid subscription ) Blackberry smart phone and ( post paid ) Windows Phone 7. But you nailed it on Nokia's 3310. I still have it, and use mainly at home and it has the anti-theft capability too ( most mobile phones burglar had ignored this model for good here in RP ). Its power lies on its simplicity and efficacy!

Another fun, fun, and fun moment for mobile computing era! - its security!

One area i don't tend to take notice of, my phone is for the odd picture as it has a decent camera and important calls which are fewer these days thankfully, i only carry it the odd time, but what stands out is the security issues, mentioned above... i think i will stick with a cheap phone and buy a laptop... even with all the scumware...its rare i have any problems, and not in the last couple of years... Thankfully Indra hasn't mentioned anything about landlines or i would never sleep

firstly, this pic is really informative

now, i completely agree with Ray. A mobile is always connected to net posses a danger much higher than PC. it almost gives full control of your personal info to anyone who creates the trojan.
