Windows help
i had a malware virus on my computer and i ran a virus scanner. The virus wouldn't delete so i did a system restore. Now since i did my system restore my computer does not work properly anymore. It gets to the start menu and then a blue screen comes up and it says "disable BIOS memory and options such as caching or shadowing". Im currently operating in safe mode. Ive tried everything to fix the problem. Can you guys give me some help or should i just restore it back to factory settings. The thing is i really don't want to lose all my music and movies i have. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello
would you please tell what O.S you are using? (XP SP2/SP3 - Vista SP1/SP2 - Windows 7 / 7 SP1) - 32 bit or 64 bit -
Do you know the name of the malware that infected your computer?
Thank you

System restore is something I don't generally recommend to my friends, because it does not fully fix up the mess. Some people use it because they tend to confuse it with time travel. The only way I see it is to backup all your movies and songs somewhere else and do a full re-install.

System Restore should never be used to try and fix malware infections. Chances are the malware would be embedded in restore points anyway, at least the most recent ones.
Before you do anything else: backup all the music and movies (and any other personal data you want to keep) to external media.

It is often better to keep one's mouth shut and appear to be a fool than to open it and remove all doubt!

Depending on your total file size, you decide. A CD can contain 700 MB, a normal DVD will contain around 4.5 GB and if the size is more than that then you may have to think of using USB flash drives or external HDDs. Whatever you use, back up your data while IN the safe mode. And next time, use a Rescue Disk if your PC is affected.

Be careful when transferring data into an external device or a DVD because you run the risk to transfer malware, too.
If you got infected by a rootkit (which is invisible) you are likely to tranfer it as well.
Please download Kaspersky TDSS killer, unzip and run it.
Since apparently you do not know what kind of malware has infected your machine you'd better to attempt to clean your system with a Rescue Disk like Avira Rescue System
Once you have copied it into a CD, set your CD/DVD reader as a primary boot device, reboot your PC then follow the instructions displayed step by step.
Once your system has been cleaned you should be able to remove the most of malware leftovers with MalwareBytes' Antimalware free and HitMan Pro 64 bit (30 days fully working free trial)

Maybe you have to manually move the music files. Or if you don't wanna back up your music, leave them there. When you format they'll get washed out anyway.
