    The era of 2000 to 2004 was more dangerous as I heard from my seniors and parents that many av were not able to detect 40% of threat and whoever give good percent of security are heavier on system.They dont have light security as mbam and hitman nowadays. The av were used to crawl down system . The processor were not that high quality and above all the hardware cost was so much high that even people who afford to buy power for their machine think twice before buying.
    Now things have chanced a lot
