Kaspersky don't download as much as 40MB every update...

I dont understand. I am very sure that no AV would download 80Mb data regularly.
Only on 1st install it downloads the signature but after that its only a few mb.
I have used Vipre for long time and I am sure that it did not download 80mb of updates.
Love me , Hate me but you just can't Ignore me

I had the bad idea to install VIPRE antivirus v 3 a couple of years ago and VIPRE dowloaded over 120 MB of updates.
VIPRE V4 improved a little whilst VIPRE v 5 appears to be quite buggy.
I'd rather go with Unthreat Antivirus free that uses VIPRE engine and provides a basic web protection (activeX controls and Java scripts are scanned)

that would have only happened once when you did the first update, right ?
After that ,it should only download a few mb as updates .
Didn't knew that Unthreat uses Vipre engine and also its free. Checking more info abt it.

correct, only during the first update.
I gave up because VIPRE v 3 was not light in memory usage in despite of their claims and VIPRE v 3 was very buggy. not to count that detected some system files as malware

Unthreat antivirus free has already been discussed in this forum, maybe you may find some hints here
They are improving it (some bugs have been found) and I hope they won't add an undesiderable toolbar as someone asked in their forum.
A toolbar included in a security software is usually unnecessary and doesn't bring any advantage.
