    Hello there,

    I need Help!!!! please!

My windows is not booting properly....I ran the Hiren's boot cd on my pc yesterday (win XP pro) and it scanned for infected files and destroyed them, yet, it didn't restart the computer as it was supposed to and still keeps on bringin me back to step 1, everytime I try to run windows....
When I power on my computer, it seems to work, brings me to the windows page (with the little window (...) and then goes back to the booting....without entering windows.

I followed all the instructions that were given when booting the computer from the Hiren's Boot CD and did the McAfee check but still nothing...

Can anyone tell me what to do, or if I could try other options?

    Thanks a lot!

You, firstly need to take Backups of your important files through the Boot CD into CDs or DVDs or USB drives. Then you should try to clean the viruses by using a good antivirus and Restart the PC.
Alternatively, you can Format the PC and install a Fresh Copy of Windows XP.This should be the best option because it will definitely clean all the viruses in your C: Drive as well as make your PC faster and less Messier.

    Thanks for your answer...

I have backed up my files on an external drive...

but the thing is I ran a virus scan using the Hiren boot CD but once all that was done and my computer was supposedly gonna restart normally, it just didn't. So I can't even access my desktop and run another virus check.
I just can't access it. Even when I try rebooting in safe mode (and all the other modes available - I tried them all), it still doesn't work and it doesn't log me in windows and keeps on rebooting.

    ....
    thanks for your time!

if it's a virus problem, connect your hdd to another PC & scan from there using Kaspersky or Norton bcoz if you use other AVs, infection could spread to that PC also.

still if it doesn't work, try booting into Recovery Console using XP CD & type these commands
    fixboot
    fixmbr

then try to run in safe mode. if failed, pop in XP CD & choose repair xp (if option appears) - that will replace all system files.

I have the exact same problem with a DELL pc.

I tried Raymond's Kapersly rescue disk remedy but I can't get my computer to boot-up from the CD I burned.

I have no XP boot discs. If you find a solution please let us know!!!!

I had a similar problem awhile ago, after uninstalling an AV which in the end didn't uninstall probably.
After hitting F8 on startup and choosing "Last known good configuration" it was fine.

Yeah... sometime all you have to do is just hit F8 before Windows boot logo appear & the choose "Last known good configuration" try that first. If it's not working try to use XP CD to boot and then press R & type C:\chkdsk /r. If it's still not working just boot from XP CD and then choose to repair the Windows installation, it will leave all your settings and data in C: drive intact. But first u must make sure that the virus process has been removed.

When Windows is unable to boot up, the first thing you should do is try booting in to Safe Mode.

Ray is right (as always). I remember at that time I had the same problem starting in Safe Mode. Everything was fine until I entered my password and then Windows restarted. "Last known good configuration" was my last easy option.
