    the problem is only KIS is hogging the system..it shoots up everytime i open a new application.. it reached 60-70% levels... and thus makes the whole system hang... i dont wanna try anything else other than kaspersky as well... need all ur help in this.. please help...

    Well, I know you want to stick with Kaspersky, but if you uninstall Kaspersky and try another program, we can narrow the problem down much further by seeing if it's Kaspersky causing the trouble or something else (seems most likely it's Kaspersky.)

    Try using an antivirus from this list that prashanthpai created and see if the problem still occurs:

    According to Ray's comparison of AV's on system recources http://www.raymond.cc/blog/archives/2008/07/11/which-free-antivirus-is-the-lightest-on-system-memory-usage/ KIS should be using 50892K while scanning. How much is yours actually using?
