Speed Up Boot Time Using Microsoft BootVis
BootVis is a free tool from Microsoft to help you speed up the boot time of your PC. You gotta walk through these steps to do this:
1. Download BootVis:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/S.../BootVis.shtml or http://majorgeeks.com/BootVis_d664.html.
2. Install and run it.
3. Go to Trace > Next Boot + Driver Delays.
4. When the Trace Repetitions window appears, click Ok and reboot you PC.
5. After rebooting BootVis will appear, click on Trace > Optimize System.
6. Reboot your PC again.
7. After rebooting your PC a window will appear: Optimizing System. Wait a little for the operation to finish.
Now the boot time of your PC should've been reduced.
Note: Windows XP only

M$ is making fun of themselves. They M$ make a tweak software for XP. Vista is the one that needed fix ASAP. M$ likes to make jokes.
Note: I know there is a third party tweak for Vista.

Guys...this is an old app. But a very interesting one as it has caused lots of controversy and speculation among techies...basically, there are 2 sides of story about BootVis.
One says that "this is a myth...BootVis isn't a tool to help speed up boot time" while another says "it works..perhaps Microsoft is lying and has an agenda"
1st side:
BootVis.exe Tool for System Manufacturers
Updated: September 19, 2003
About Bootvis.exe
Bootvis.exe is a
performance tracing and visualization tool that Microsoft designed to help PC system designers and software developers identify performance issues for boot/resume timing while developing new PC products or supporting software.
Please note that
Bootvis.exe is not a tool that will improve boot/resume performance for end users. Contrary to some published reports, Bootvis.exe cannot reduce or alter a system's boot or resume performance. The boot optimization routines invoked by Bootvis.exe are built into Windows XP. These routines run automatically at pre-determined times as part of the normal operation of the operating system.

Check out Softpedia's review of this app here:
Microsoft's Secret Little Tool -What's really behind BootVis?
According to PCMag,
In short, it is an Internet myth that BOOTVis can help you. Do not waste your time running this utility
2nd side:
I'm not sure what kind of game they are playing but the "Bootvis.exe is not a tool that will improve boot/resume performance for end users." is a blatant untruth. From what I understand, Windows XP runs the routines that Bootvis does every 3 days (isn't it strange that all 4 machines showed improvements even though XP is supposed to be doing this by itself?). That may be all well and good but suppose I want to put my machine in a optimized state NOW (especially if I want a clean and optimized Ghost image)? For MS to say it will not improve boot times is ....ridiculous. They may not have created this tool for end users, but it does work.

Conclusion? You have to decide it for yourself...whom do you trust more...Microsoft or the tweakers' speculation....
P.S. I've known about this app 2 years back and I've tried it before...didn't see much improvement at all but again, to each his own....
They call me the mysterious one...
