2. Run VistaGlazz from where you’ve downloaded. VistaGlazz gives you this dialog. Click the “I agree” button. Now click on first icon in the next screen:
3. VistaGlazz will display this dialog. By default, VistaGlazz displays the first icon (“Patch Style” button, the one with the monitor) without the green tick mark like this,
4. Click on the icon. VistaGlazz will patch your system files and when done will ask you to restart the computer. Let it restart your computer.
5. Once the computer restarts and comes back up and running, run VistaGlazz again. This time you’ll see the “Patch Style” button having a green tick mark. Then you can start copy the downloaded theme folder (containing a .theme file and a folder containing .msstyles file) to “%windir%\Resources\Themes\” folder.
6. Now right-click on Desktop and select “Personalize“. Click on “Theme” link in the new window and select the downloaded theme from drop-down list.
Congratulations! you’ve successfully patched your Windows Vista installation to allow custom themes.
Hope this helped you if any errors just send me a PM and ill sort it out.
Why do you thank me? I didn't mention anything much...VistaGlazz didn't work right for me and some others...if you're one of those people, a good idea is to patch it manually on your own...take a look at this on how to do it:
"UxStyle" is a very small utility created by well-known "Rafael" @ Withinwindows.
UxStyle is a light-weight system service named Unsigned Themes, complimentary to the Themes service, and a kernel driver, sizing in at ~500k and ~17kb respectfully (beta builds). The service handles the enabling/disabling of custom theme support and the kernel driver handles patching. For 64-bit platforms, the kernel driver is signed with a digital certificate, as required by Microsoft.
Simply download and install the tool and get ready to enjoy 3rd party themes. It works in Windows XP, Vista and 7.
Note that it doesn't have any UI. It'll run as a service in background and will allow you to use 3rd party themes.
P.S. I've not tested UXStyle before as I prefer to patch it once and get it done and over with...
