That is indeed one way (there are various ways actually) but there are conflicting opinions as to what should or should not be called portable apps...some apps do run fine on USB but still writes certain stuffs to the registry, application data folder, etc...those apps aren't stealth...in geek terms.
P.S. You don't have to create your own portable Firefox...you can just download it from here: http://portableapps.com/news/2009-12-18_-_firefox_portable_3.5.6
They call me the mysterious one...

Yeah your right
For me I like to use portable programs from my USB cause for me it saves me more time rather than installing the actual program and the fact that School Computers don't allow to install or download

Here you will find a helpful info page on how to create shortcuts that work no matter which letter is assigned to your usb device... otherwise known as 'relative' batch files
safeguy is right about the registry entries however, and it is best to check closely before you call it a 'true portable app'....

Nice info NCU.
You know? Portable applications are really useful for me to do some works in my college lab. On that times i should be more careful not to leave registry traces (just as safeguy said).
Geeks never die. They just go Offline.

Thanks for the info ...
.
This will be useful for me to take some programs to my school .
In computers at lab , programs can be installed , but the next time you restart pc it will not be there .They have set this by some technique ( freeze ).
Even files and folders will not be there at next re start.

Why not? You can use registry cleaner or simply delete its registry in regedit(i advise you not to play with it).
