Make your laptop cooler and have a longer battery life by undervolting

Well, I'm pretty sure some of you guys are using laptops which may be scorching hot at times (mine is)...and although using cooling pads may help, don't you wish you could do something about all that heat without using an external device?

Well, that's where "undervolting" plays a part....

    In simple terms,

Undervolting is just a method to lower the amount of excess power that your CPU receives.
Here's a relatively simple guide that shows you how to do it:

    The "Undervolting" Guide
(original guide which includes further information and side notes)

    OR

Lower the temperatures on your laptop by undervolting.
(reprinted on dotTech.org with permission...certain information has been omitted but otherwise, this one is slightly 'simpler' to read)

The undervolt will only be in effect when RMclock utility is on. This means you don't have to worry as you can always revert back to default or 'normal' if you face any issues...the changes are "software-based" and isn't permanent.

P.S. Don't worry..the guide easy to follow through step-by-step. It helps if you read it a few times before proceeding...you'd be able to grasp better the main 'concept' of what is being done and why. Make sure you save your work and close your other apps before you start on your mission

Disclaimer: As mentioned on the guide, you might face a few BSOD if you put the voltage too low...don't blame me if anything goes wrong...I'm just sharing educational information for the benefit of others.

A few more readings for those interested (you don't have to read them if you don't wish to)

Undervolting a laptop - Why undervolting? (and by the way they have their own undervolting guide there...similar concept...just using different tools)

I know I'm due to do this sometime soon... perhaps a week where I work next to nothing. The opposite of this week.

Good idea...there's no need to rush when it comes to such stuffs. Take your time and enjoy the results when you see it. I wished I've done this earlier so that my battery wear isn't that terrible as it is now...

Thanks for sharing this safeguy!! I undervolted my laptop a few weeks ago and it's working great. I'm not annoyed by the fan sound anymore.

    Screw Google! Ask me!
