How to fix missing or corrupt Hal.dll during boot up
This 'fix' concerns the message
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt <Windows root>\system32\hal.dll
upon boot up.

Fortunately there are 10 different ways to tackle this problem so at least 2 or more of the provided instructions should work.

I was surprised to read Vista and 7 had anything in comon with this, i remember my XP days..and haven't come across anything similar in Vista or 7 but then again im not as disruptive as i used to be...

@JayCub: I encountered it for the first time after I made a clean installation of Windows XP on my friend's computer. Never on Vista and 7 (at least for now
). Define disruptive

It is surely useful for Windows XP users, as Vista and Seven should have much lesser problems.

before i made any backups and used to spend hours on dial up reinstalling updates and drivers.... the good old days...
