Okay, here's the deal with torrents. From what I've learned while downloading torrents is that you should always share with everbody so everyone will be pleased and happy. It's also very important to use torrent clients that are allowed by the tracker(s). You should consider using one of the following programs...

BitTorrent Original Keep in mind that some clients don't follow the torrent rules, and are therefore banned from further usage. Avoid these clients at all cost because you'll either get low download speed or none at all...

• Ask Wikipedia

Do yourself a favor and get a 'good' Client like Azureus, uTorrent, BitTornado, the original Client or one of the many many other clients which don't violate the BitTorrent rules or prefer themself. Check WikiPedia! ;]
When you've finally decided what you want to use, it's time to do some basic calculations regarding your download/upload speed. To test your speed you should visit [url=www.speedtest.net]Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test site. It's very important to know your limits so you'll get the optimal performance.
Once you're done, it's time to visit this cool [url=http://infinite-source.de/az/az-calc.html]Azureus U/L settings calculator site I've discovered while surfin' the net. It gives you the best overall preferences you should enter in your torrent client (doesn't necessarily need to be Azureus). Enter the given calculations and don't forget to open/forward a port in your router settings, so the download process will be fluent.
You'll then receive a green icon on the bottom of your screen indicating that it's working properly. It should look something like this
(depending on the client you're using).
The biggest mistake you can make when downloading torrents is to limit the upload speed below 10 kb/s. If you do that, you're screwed. The tracker will limit your download speed and you'll get crappy results. Keep your upload speed at 75% of your total flow and also, you're doing a great job by seeding 100% completed torrents for others (if they can do it, so can you). Always remember to share 'cause sharing is caring!
Alas, the last trick I can teach you is a little complicated because it might not work for everyone and could induce random connection failures. But still, it's worth a go...
First start by downloading [url=http://www.lvllord.de/download.php?url=en/EvID4226Patch223d-en.zip]LvLord's Patch. Secondly, when you run the executable file, make sure to set the maximum number of half-open connections to 50 and CANCEL the Windows Security Alert that might pop up when applying the patch. After you've done all that, it's time to open your torrent client's Prefrences and locate the Advanced section. Once you're there, see to it that you find this next option that should look like this: net.max_halfopen and enter a value lower than 50 (e.g. 46) and press SET. If you've done everything correctly, the screen should resemble this next picture.

Keep in mind that everything I've written so far has been done in µTorrent, but these settings can also be applied to any other torrent client. Upon anything suspicious related to random router disconnections, it is advised to restore the original tcpip.sys by using the same patch routine. Don't forget to reset the torrent client's options too.
When all things fail, you should consider yourself lucky to even be able to download torrents in the first place. Some trackers block foreign countries (like Demonoid blocks Canada), others demand a ridiculously high share ratio etc. In other words, it takes more than a fast connection to finish a torrent. Patience is a virtue in this field of knowledge. Good things come to those who wait, and you'll always have RapidShare as a backup plan, lol.
In the end, it really comes down to this one simple, but very important tip. Always look for torrents with the best seed/peer ratio. The more seeds (compared to peers) the better (in general). So 50 seeds and 50 peers is better than 500 seeds and 1000 peers. Remember to be selective. ;]
A few other minor tips would be...
Disable Windows Firewall
It just sucks donkey balls and hates you and your computer. Use Kerio or ZoneAlarm.
Turn on Encryption
Because some ISP's like to limit your BitTorrent traffic. Also, [url=http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2]PeerGuardian might come in handy here.
Change the default port
Avoid using the default ports 6881-6999 because ISP's limit the connection on those ports (high traffic). If you're still not sure how to forward your ports, try enabling UPnP (if supported). That should work too.
Happy Torrenting!

Well, I just generated a random port number and entered it in my router settings. If you're having second thoughts 'bout this refer to the [url=http://www.portforward.com]PortForward.com site.

hey that LvLord's Patch o yours was detected as an unwanted program. should i runit or no.

LvlLord patch modifies one of your Windows system file (TCPIP.SYS), usually antivirus would detect it as unwanted program. It is safe.
