I quit downloading (using utorrent) a couple of years ago when there was a big noise made about BitTorrent downloading being illegal.

Enough time may have passed to know if the usa government is really prosecuting downloaders?

Anyone have any personal knowledge about the status?

Use Peerblock(free) or BotRevolt we have the same bull in the UK plus you can access all the main torrent sites with Opera browser in off road mode if they are banned in your country....(y)

    Thank you ted,
This is such a scary subject to me since the American federal government is involved, with the politics of Hollywood big business pushing the government to enforce this law, that I really need someone to speak up who lives in the U.S.A.
I want to use BitTorrent and p2p downloading again because most of the very best free music, movies, and ebooks I have ever found online were found was discovered via limewire and utorrent downloading.

My wife really misses limewire Pro. Little ever rattles her, but she still complains often about the shut down of it after the government sued the owner of Limewire.

GRAND RAPIDS — A California-based adult film company has filed a lawsuit against several people in west Michigan for illegally downloading videos.

An adult film company called Malibu Media has the IP addresses for thousands of people and is now targeting them for copyright infringement.

Last week, a Muskegon man was ordered to pay $40,000 to Malibu Media plus attorney’s fees. The case names Lonnie Sagala as the defendant. He was not home Tuesday when WZZM-TV (Channel 13) went to his house for comment.

Sagala is accused of illegally downloading several adult videos via the internet-sharing site BitTorrent. When Sagala failed to respond to the lawsuit, a default judgment was entered.

Chicago attorney Jeff Antonelli is representing some of the other defendants in the lawsuits.

“All cases are essentially the same,” Antonelli said. “There may be some technical differences, but they all allege that the subscriber to the internet account has downloaded or uploaded, one or more of the companies copyrighted works. Usually, it’s a group of 10 or more.”

Antonelli says in some cases, the plaintiff settles for an undisclosed amount of money, while others fight the allegations.

So far, Malibu Media has filed more than 1,000 lawsuits in several states. The most recent ones in west Michigan, were filed a few days ago in U.S. District Court.

Why do you worry if you are not live in U.S.A.?

Can anyone vouch/recommend a VPN they know will not let the usa government have their records. One that you use and trust that has proven itself.
