    Upgrade notes
It's advisable to wait some time (days/weeks) to upgrade, until you read user reports on troubles that may arise and possible workarounds.

I am 12.04. I will wait till I get a lot of good reviews. Besides they do not give direct upgrade option in update manager.

I upgraded it (backup first) from 13.10 and so far so good. Not so many changes in the GUI but it feels a bit faster.

You can wait until July (14.04.1 release) for direct upgrade message, or force it with
    Code:
    sudo update-manager -d
    -d for latest development release

What is size on disk? Did the start-up become fast or not?

I've done online upgrade. It took about 970MB and more than 1 hour (next day release = low download speed, too many users upgrading)
I didn't notice any difference on start-up time (SSD disk) but it seems faster managing windows, folders...

Some of the changes are described here:

    and some recommendations:
10 Things To Do After Installing Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr To Get A Near Perfect Desktop

For lighter distros there are Lubuntu, elementaryOS (nice looking DE) and a lot more
