Unthreat antivirus uses Vipre engine and it's free.
    Would anyone still purchase Vipre?

Lol..:D Lavasoft Free also uses Vipre engine but only on-execution scan is there in free version. I think Vipre Antivirus still gets priority updates/upgrades.
@leo: Did a quick test on this antivirus but not with malware threats. You can find a few information in Wilders Security thread.

    Thank you sujay
I have read your review, well done.

Therefore I decided to test it.. ehr did you read the EULA before installing this program? ; )

OpenCandy is a very aggressive adware.. malware in other words and it is also detected by Microsoft Security Essential and other AV

    http://hosts-file.net/?s=opencandy.com

    Classification: EMD

I was not prompted to install any Google toolbar but Uniblue Driverscanner (in italian, since OpenCandy detected where I am from).

Some people consider Uniblue products as scareware or "useless" at least, since you have to pay to fix the supposed errors found or missing drivers

It is not prechecked, at least.

Unthreat Antivirus free has a very basic protection (I could find no activeX / JScript protection in despite of their claims), displays advertisements and you cannot set it to ask what to do once a suspicious file is found. I could not even find a quarantine module.
I did a quick scan which was very fast (too fast).

You are right "the menu context scan" isn't working.

I do not think I shall reccomend this AV unless their installer won't get connected with OpenCandy network anymore.
Hopefully they will withdraw from their agreement with OpenCandy

    @leo:
Thanks for pointing that out. I have updated my post. You might have a look. The software has a quarantine manager.

    why not?
i believe whosoever likes Viper would buy it no matter how many competitors use its engine. Personally i find it really interesting to see how these vendors use other engines and almost never beat the original ones. For instance Bullguard uses Bitdefender it it seems to work a little better that BD itself but its prices are a lot higher, ZoneAlarm uses Kaspersky engines ( although not the personal one but rather the version that is used for companies ) but is is just as heavy and a little buggy in comparison with KIS. I may go on and mention others . Viper is rather comfortable as Unthreat is not as known and aggressive. I would rather pay Viper than jumble my PC with anything else that resembles to it. That is opinion
