Figured I'd update the poll, since I can no longer say Ubuntu is my favourite. These days, it's 'Give me Arch/Salix/Mandriva/Debian', though I know one of my buddies will prefer SMGL (Source Mage GNU/Linux).

So let's see how the opinion changed.

I have voted for PCLinuxOS. It is more or less similar to Mandriva since both are based on Mandrake. However I can get all packages I need from PCLinuxOS official repos and PCLinuxOS is a rolling distro which means all the improvements are delivered through updates. Hence there is no need to upgrade our installation every 6 months. That said from 2011 version Mandriva will see yearly release cycle and I may try it when it is out. But I am only in to windows right now as managing two OS seems time consuming for me with linux needing updates in hundreds of mb. I have unlimited broadband but my ISP has reduced my broadband speed to half as I reached my download limit due to downloading and trying many linux distros (and updating them) this month;)

Edit: I forgot to add that it is better to get the KDE version of PCLinuxOS as I had issues with other Desktop environment spins.

I like Ubuntu for it's community support, Mandriva for it's speed and Debian, the "Universal Operating System", for it's large number of packages.

I am still using Ubuntu 11.04 and its great and a lot faster than windows on my machine. But when I get time I am going to download and try out Mandriva as Bearcat and hellnoire suggested. :D

This weekend my Grandson helped me to install Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my computer. I have never used a Linux product before and I was very impressed with Ubuntu. For a beginner like myself, it seems pretty straight forward and easy to use. I am not ready to give up Windows 7 quite yet, but it is fun to play around with something different.
